The history of Eaglehawk Primary School

  • 1854

    Eaglehawk opened in 1854. It was the first school on Eaglehawk goldfield. The first head teacher was James Talbot. Classes were held in a tent. 
     

  • 1856

     A new schoolhouse was built in Church Street. It was made of timber.

  • 1862

    The school became a common school in 1862.

  • 1866

    A brick room was added to the school.

  • 1870

    Another room was added in 1870.

  • 1873

    Eaglehawk became a state school in 1873. 

  • 1874

    The number of students had grown so a new brick school was built. 

  • 1884

    The school was growing and a new wing was added to the school building. 

  • 1886

    Another wing was added to the school. 

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Eaglehawk Primary School in 1970.

  • 2022

    Eaglehawk Primary School is still in operation.
