The history of Hamilton (Gray Street) Primary School

  • 1852

    Hamilton opened as national school in 1852.

  • 1866

    Hamiliton became a common school in 1866. The head teacher was C.H. Phillips

  • 1870s

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878. A local church school closed and the students moved to Hamilton State School. The number of students was increasing. A new school building opened in 1876.

  • 1904

    A building from Tahara Bridge State School (No. 2451) was moved to Hamilton to use as a classroom.

  • 1966

    The old slate roof was replaced with cement tiles.

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Hamilton Primary School in 1970.

  • 2022

    Hamilton (Gray St) Primary School is still in operation.
