The history of Inglewood Primary School
1870s
Inglewood opened as a common school in 1870. The first head teacher was Thomas M. Thompson. The school replaced Inglewood Common School (No. 456) on the same site.
The school became a state school in 1873.
1888
Head teacher Thomas M. Thompson left the school in 1888.
1912
In around 1912 the state school became a higher elementary school (HES). A HES offered Years 7 to 10 classes. Between about 1912 and 1988 the school was referred to as numbers 1052 and 8670. It is not known why it had two numbers at the same time. It might have been a way to distinguish between primary and HES classes.
1980
The school reverted to the name Inglewood Primary School in about 1988 when higher elementary classes stopped.
2022
Inglewood Primary School is still in operation.
