The history of Lockwood Primary School

  • 1864

    Lockwood opened as a common school in 1864 when 29 students were enrolled. 

  • 1865

    A new school building was built in 1865.

  • 1868

    Outbuildings were added in 1868. 

  • 1870s

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878. 

  • 1885

    The school became a part-time school with Shelbourne South State School in 1885. It shared its only teacher with Shelbourne South (No. 2263) and the teacher split their time between both schools. 
     

  • 1902

    The school started teaching full time again in 1902.

  • 1965

    The school commemorated its 100th anniversary in 1965. The oldest past student, Jim Roberts, planted a centenary tree. He was 92 at the time. 

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Lockwood Primary School in 1970.

  • 2022

    Lockwood Primary School is still in operation.
