The history of Mount Lonarch State School

  • 1850

    Mount Lonarch opened sometime after 1850.

    Classes were first held in a large shed built by the local community. This was later replaced by a schoolhouse.

    There were 30 students taught by Miss Stanford.

    The school became a common school in 1862.

  • 1870s

    This school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.

  • 1916

    A new school was built in 1916.

  • 1966

    Mount Lonarch State school closed in 1966.

    The last teacher at the school was W. J. MacCartney.
