The history of Murchison Primary School
1871
Murchison opened as a common school in 1871. It replaced Common School (No. 420) that was blown down in a storm in 1870. The first head teacher was Thomas Meagher, who was previously head teacher at No. 420. 66 students were enrolled.
1901
A new brick school building opened on a new site. The old school became a sloyd room, used for woodworking, and a cookery centre.
1939
A bus service to Shepparton started in 1939 to send students for secondary education.
1949
Memorial gates were added in 1949. The old school building from Mitchellstown State School (No. 1750) was moved to the school to be used as a classroom.
1958
Extensive renovations were completed in 1958.
1970
The school was renamed Murchison Primary School in 1970.
2022
Murchison Primary School is still in operation.
