The history of Sunbury Primary School

  • 1869

    The school opened as a common school in 1869. The first head teacher was Marion Foster and classes were held in the Presbyterian Church. 

  • 1870s

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878. 

  • 1911

    A brick school building was opened in 1911. It replaced as earlier building that had poor ventilation and poor toilet facilities. 

  • 1960s

    The number of students enrolled at the school tripled in the 1960s. The brick school building was extended to 8 classrooms in 1962. A portable was added in 1969. 

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Sunbury Primary School in 1970.

  • 2022

    Sunbury Primary School is still in operation.
