The history of Toongabbie Primary School

  • 1867

    Toongabbie opened as a common school in 1867. The first head teacher was Henry W. Sanders. The school building was ‘a building of slab walls, boarded floor, and iron roof'. 
     

  • 1870s

    A new weatherboard schoolroom was built in 1871. It was on the site that was later part of the railway station yard.

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878. 
     

  • 1883

    The school building was sold in 1883 when the railway line was completed. A new school building opened on the present school site. 

  • 1966

    A new school building opened in 1966. 

  • 1968

    The old school building was demolished in 1968. A second classroom was added at the same time. 

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Toongabbie Primary School in 1970.

  • 2022

    Toongabbie Primary School is still in operation.
