The history of East Bellarine State School

  • 1854

    East Bellarine School was opened in 1854 by the Free Church of Scotland.

    The first head teacher was Angus McLeod.

    There were 46 students enrolled, but the average attendance was only 28. Classes were taught in a rented building.

  • 1870s

    In 1873 the average attendance was 67. This dropped to 24 by the late 1870s.

  • 1892

    The school closed.
