The history of Hurdle Creek State School

  • 1870s

Hurdle Creek opened as a common school in 1871.

The schoolhouse was made of red bricks and the local community called it the ‘Brick School'. There was also a house for the teacher made from red bricks.

The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.

Hurdle Creek had low student numbers in 1878 so it became a part-time school. It shared its only teacher with Hurdle Creek West State School (No. 2536), and the teacher split their time between both schools.

  • 1890

The school became full time again.

  • 1902

The school closed in 1902 because there were not enough students.

The school buildings continued to be used as a community hall.
