The history of Rosebrook State School

  • 1854

    Rosebrook, located close to Port Fairy, opened as a Church of England School.

    The first head teacher was Edward Hall.

  • 1863

    The school became Rosebrook Common School (No. 163).

  • 1869

     The head teacher in 1969 was JH Irwin, who stayed until 1881.

  • 1878

    The Department of Education built a new school out of bluestone after Rosebrook became a state school. The old school building became the teacher's house.

  • 1949

    Rosebrook closed as part of the government's consolidation policy for rural schools.

    Five more primary schools in the region closed at the same time.

    All the students moved to Port Fairy Consolidated School (No. 1188). This school is still in operation.
