The history of Yandoit Primary School

  • 1861

    Yandoit opened as a national school in 1861.

    The first head teacher was Thomas Gannon and the average attendance was 25.

    The weatherboard school building was also used as a church until Government funding was provided.

  • 1862

    A new weatherboard building was built on the new school site.

  • 1864

    The school building was extended in 1864.

  • 1870s

    The school became a state school at some stage between 1873 and 1878.

  • 1889

    A new wooden school building was built in 1889. The old school building was sold and removed from the school site.

  • 1902

    The building was extended and two rooms were added to the residence. 74 students were enrolled at the time.

  • 1916

    A laundry and bathroom were added to the teacher's residence. The school building was also renovated.

  • 1970

    The school was renamed Yandoit Primary School in 1970.

  • 2022

    Yandoit Primary School is still in operation.
